Cellulite vs Skin Laxity

Many patients think they have cellulite when the primary issue is actually loose or thinning skin.

Cellulite is caused by fibrous connective bands pulling down beneath the skin, while skin laxity is caused by collagen loss and reduced skin elasticity.

At Revive, we carefully evaluate whether cellulite, skin laxity, or both are contributing to your concerns so we can recommend the most effective treatment plan.

Some patients may benefit from a combination of skin tightening treatments and Aveli cellulite reduction.

Frequently Asked Questions

Please Contact us if you have any additional questions. We are here to help you.
What is Cellulite? Why do I have Cellulite?

Cellulite is a depression of any shape or size with defined edges seen on the surface of the skin, typically on the buttocks or thighs. A major underlying cause of cellulite are the fibrous bands that tether your skin to the structures below. These bands are called septa. Some septa are good (and you want them as connective tethers), but others stiffen or shrink over time and lead to the dimples we see on the surface and call cellulite.

It is important to distinguish cellulite from other concerns like laxity or localized fat, which we can talk you through during a consultation in our office.

How to reduce Cellulite with Avéli®?

Avéli® addresses the primary structural cause of cellulite in 3 steps:

  1. The doctor guides the Aveli device under the skin directly to the targeted dimples.
  2. The septa bands causing the dimple are precisely released.
  3. The doctor can confirm their release in real-time, delivering visibly smoother skin quickly after the procedure.
Do I need multiple sessions with Aveli? Any downtime?

Usually no, Avéli® is a one time procedure. During a single cellulite procedure, we can fully treat the targeted cellulite dimples on both your buttocks and thighs.

Minimal downtime, return to work the next day.

Are there any side effects for Avéli®?

In the clinical study, the most common side effects reported were mild pain within the first 24 hours and bruising and tenderness to the touch which typically resolved within 30 days. Small areas of firmness, usually not visible or painful, typically resolved in a couple of months.

Some women may develop mild skin discoloration after the procedure that can be resolved with IPL treatment.

How quickly will I see improvement in my cellulite after Avéli® procedure?

Avéli® cellulite reduction results should be visible once swelling and bruising subsides. By one-month post-procedure you should start to see the effects of the procedure.

How long will results last after Avéli® procedure for cellulite?

Avéli® is a one time procedure. Participants in the clinical study demonstrated a lasting reduction in the appearance of their cellulite when assessed one year after the procedure.

Clinical data demonstrated treatment benefits through one year of observation, although natural aging, weight changes, and new cellulite changes may still occur over time.

What treatments pair well with Avéli® cellulite treatment?

Avéli® can be combined with other body-contouring and skin-tightening treatments depending on your goals. Some patients also consider Renasculpt EMS, skin tightening treatments, Liquid Lipo, collagen-stimulating injections, microneedling with radiofrequency, or medical weight loss to improve muscle tone, localized fat, skin laxity, collagen support, and overall body contour. During your consultation at Revive GYN in Marlton, NJ, we can determine whether cellulite, skin laxity, volume loss, or stubborn fat is the main concern and recommend the best combination plan.
